「S/N」とダムタイプについてのオンライントーク “LIFE WITH VIRUS”: Teiji Furuhashi in New York
ニューヨークと日本をZOOMでつないで行われた「S/N」とダムタイプについてのオンライントーク “LIFE WITH VIRUS”: Teiji Furuhashi in New Yorkを見た。ダムタイプに関するトークはこれまでもよく開催されてきたが、今回はニューヨークからBarbara Londonさんも参加して、いままであまり知られていなかったニューヨークでの古橋悌二氏に焦点を合わせたトークとなっていたのが画期的であった。
ダムタイプについては私自身深い関心を持っており、維新派や平田オリザと並び私の舞台芸術への傾倒を決定的にしたグループである。関西在住だった時にメンバーへ連続インタビューを試み、メンバーによる共同制作という側面もあって、ダムタイプはどういうグループであるのかという認識がメンバーごとに異なるということが分かってきたのだが、インタビュー自体は私が仕事の関係で東京に引っ越したせいもあり、藤本隆行*1、山中透*2、高谷史郎の３氏から話を聞いた時点で中断したままになり、当時インタビュー収録を考えていた媒体の廃刊もあり、結局そのままになってしまっているのだが、継続していれば今後別のメンバーのインタビューなども考えていた。その中には今回のトークに参加していたパフォーマーのブブ・ド・ラ・マドレーヌさんや高嶺格さんらも念頭にあったのだが、できないままになってしまった。
今回のトークを見てZOOMなどを使ってなんとか続きができないだろうかとの思いも新たにした。現在は以前とは異なり、リモートでの遠隔の人へのインタビューが可能な状況になりつつあるし、関係者の年齢などから考えて、いまが最後のチャンスかもしれないとも考えている。収録したインタビューをまとめて掲載してくれる媒体が見つからないとインタビューへの相手への交渉も困難であるため、どこか載せてもいいよというところが現れてくれないだろうか。（本気なので連絡お願いします）

An online conversation with Barbara London, Bubu de la Madeleine, and Toru Yamanaka, moderated by Sho AkitaFor our International Curatorial Residency with Japanese curator Sho Akita, Visual AIDS presents an online conversation about the work and activism of Japanese artist Teiji Furuhashi (1960–1995), a founding member of the performance collective Dumb Type and an outspoken AIDS activist in Japan.
This program brings together friends of Teiji Furuhashi from Japan and the US to shed light on the cultural exchange that he facilitated between New York and Kyoto.

Visual AIDS and Normal Screen host the first online presentation of Dumb Type's provacative response to the AIDS crisis in Japan. S/N invokes the notion of a "signal to noise" ratio as a structuring metaphor, challenging Japan’s silence about AIDS with explicit discussion of gay identity, stigma, sex work, and border politics.
